The answer isn’t what most expect. It’s not more features. It’s not more dev hours. It’s a shift in how the service is delivered, and how it’s perceived. And truthfully, it’s a learning that’s still evolving. We’re speaking to agency founders every week.

Each conversation adds a layer, a new insight, a new approach, that makes a big difference.

WPRemote’s survey of 5000 Agency Owners in United States shows that 70% of the clients who pay $500/Month for maintenance are Ecommerce Businesses making between $10k-$50k MRR per month.

This $500/Month does not include marketing or design services - it’s purely invested in website maintenance & security. And if you think only big agencies can do this…Out of the 100 agencies offering these, the median team size was 2 people & one external resource.

But, trying to charge $500 per month, left us with many questions, like -

How to Charge $500 for
ONLY Website Maintenance?

  1. What are the extra services you need to provide, how do you package & sell them to clients?
  2. What’s the difference between a generic WordPress Care Plan ($100 on average) & a $500 WooCommerce Care Plan?
  3. What are the tools & frameworks that allow a 2 person agency offer $500 Care Plans for 50 Ecom Stores?

"We will answer all that & more from this survey of 5000 agency owners & my own experience of 10+ years of dealing with WooCommerce maintenance."

Let’s start with the first question,

“What are the extra services you need to provide, and how do you package & sell them to clients?”

Let’s begin with Web Hosting. Easiest to sell for most agencies, but surprisingly, out of the top 100 agencies offering $500 care plans, 30 did not offer hosting at all to avoid the hassle. The remaining 70 sold “Premium Web Hosting” with Kinsta or Rocket.net.

But why not Hostinger? ~ is what the clients asked…

These are the stats they replied with-

  1. Performance
  • 53% of mobile visits abandon if a page takes >3 seconds to load. Cheap shared hosting with low TTFB pushes you past this line (Queue report).
  • Even a mere 0.1s speed up lifted retail conversions by 8.4% (Google study).
  • If your store does $30k/month, thats +$2,520/month, meaning the extra $100 for premium hosting is ROI positive within days.
  1. Uptime
  • Downtime strikes in peak hours - you lose thousands of dollars, search rankings are decimated by 30% (SCE study)
  • Even worse, 15% visitors never return after experiencing an error or crash (Baymard Study)
  • Even a few minutes of errors during a promo will cost you thousands of dollars. Premium hosts keep pages fast & stable during spikes.
  1. Security
  • Over 4M WordPress sites are hacked each year & 70% of those are SMBs whose costs spiral into thousands of dollars due to refunds, chargebacks, penalties etc (SDM Report).
  • 90% of such breaches are due to poor maintenance & security (WPM Report).
  • Premium hosting adds isolation + Enterprise WAF to cut off bots/exploits and limit blast radius - exactly what cheap shared servers lack.

These stats are enough for a serious Ecommerce store owner to choose better hosting. The risk of losing data or revenue is high, while the effort is low.

Only because of smarter tooling.

Let’s answer the next question,

“What’s the difference between a generic WordPress Care Plan

($100 on average) & a $500 WooCommerce Care Plan?”
